CHI Health Care

Six years ago CHI Health Care opened its doors in a bold non-profit initiative to create a new model of primary care that was holistic, collaborative, and accessible to a wide range of income levels. CHI prioritized taking commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and using a sliding fee scale. A key part of the business plan relied on insurance payment reforms that were just starting to emerge, known now as “value based care.” Healthcare has traditionally used a “fee for service” payment structure that pays for treatment only after you get sick. Value based payments are different because they compensate providers to get people healthy and then keep them healthy. And this is what CHI Health Care became successful at, fostering health. We knew we were doing something right as over the years we heard, time and again, from our patients, “This is how health care is meant to be.” Unfortunately, the payment reform movement has hit many obstacles and value based programs have not taken hold fast enough to sustain our financial survival. Despite making drastic cuts to our overhead expenses, reductions in staffing, implementing numerous revenue initiatives, and exploring partnerships, it is with pain and great sadness that our Board of Directors decided to close the clinical practice at CHI Health Care as of July 23rd 2019. CHI Health Care was started to pioneer solutions for the growing health care crisis in America. The clinical practice closed in July, and CHI Health Care is regrouping to tap into its steep learning curve of acquired knowledge and expertise in how to deliver high quality, holistic, value focused care that can lower overall health care costs. It will continue its non-profit mission through education and advocacy. As payment reform evolves we will take all our lessons learned to find ways to advance, refine, and implement the widespread use of accessible, Integrative Primary Care. Thank you from all of us at CHI Health Care.
