The Road to Parity helps people in extreme poverty in developing countries to set up small businesses. It provides one-off micro-grants to enable entrepreneurs to buy the equipment or supplies needed to start a tiny enterprise. So far, more than 80 businesses have been set up in the slums of Delhi, India. Many of the beneficiaries are illiterate and have no prior business experience. The charity was founded in 2018 by Jonathan Hill who was inspired to act following his master's research into base of the wealth pyramid communities in rural India. His research was later expanded into the book, Marketing in the Dark. The Road to Parity is based in Southport, UK and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (No. 1187425). While India is the current focus of the charity's work, TRTP plans to develop similar poverty alleviation programmes in other developing nations.
