The Department of Economics was established in 1921 and has been making significant contributions to academics and policy making at the local, tribal and national level. The research output is noted for its innovativeness, relevance and sensitivity to current socio-economic problems at all times. Due to its academic credentials, the Department of Economics has been recognized as a Centre for Advanced Studies in Economics by the University Grants Commission since 1963. A Centre for Women’s Studies is also functional in the Department.
