WA3RM AB
www.wa3rm.seFrom ESS’s 3R to a new 3R The WA3RM team, formerly the Energy Division of the European Spallation Source (ESS), had the task to deliver a mega science infrastructure that was Responsible – Renewable – Recyclable. 3R is still as central to us as it is part of our logo, but now with the meaning Reduce – Reuse – Regenerate. The nexus opportunity and the need for regeneration Food, energy and water are inextricably linked and unsustainably supplied. A consequence of the food-energy-water nexus is that we cannot feed ourselves without depleting resources of fossil fuels and nutrients, clean water, soil and ecology. This is unsustainable, and to improve, we must create regenerative processes that restore, replenish and rejuvenate resources. Disruptive change and business models are needed to supply food, feed and fuel. Regenerative Industry Development is what we do We achieve regeneration by combining waste streams from heavy industries, adding biological processes and external capital to produce valuable outputs such as food, fuel and feed. In our current projects, waste streams involve low-grade waste heat, CO2 and industrial food waste. The biological processes are represented by photosynthesis in greenhouses and fish farming, where fish excrements become fertilizers for the greenhouses. Future possibilities include fermentation, digestion and drying processes to create fuels. How we do it: Waste resources + biology + money We procure waste streams, finance and build the infrastructure needed to make good use of these streams, recruit the operators of the infrastructure (our customers) and deliver the cooling needed back to the industry. WA3RM business model The WA3RM role is to design and finance the regenerating infrastructure, manage the project and to provide legal and financial structuring. We earn money by procuring waste streams from the industry and lease the regenerating infrastructure bundled with the acquired resources to the operator.
