About Marlies Katy The owner of MK Jewelry, Marlies Katy Smit studied Cultural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam, a mixture of art history, economics and management. During her studies she worked at jeweller Lyppens and Schipper, auction house Christie's Amsterdam and she did an internship at Christie's London. After receiving her Masters, she worked at Forrester Research in the retail department. Not happy in an office job, she went to San Francisco to do an international trade and commerce course at the University of California in Berkeley. When Marlies Katy came back, she was determined to work in the jewelry business and became a gemmologist in the German stone town Idar-Oberstein. She worked at Bonebakker jewellers for some time and decided quite soon that she wanted to realise her dream: her own jewelry store with her own MK jewel line. After three years she started her second store in the PC Hooftstraat. Marlies Katy: In a world of globalisation, people have the need for exclusiveness and quality. The jewelry we design tell stories, not only about things that inspire us but also about you, our client. Buying a jewel is one thing but the experience of choosing the right piece for you is just as special at MK Jewelry. It is the love for individuality and quality that makes our collection so unique. Every jewel of our collection is designed to be mixed and matched: create your own set of rings, necklaces to wear long or short with or without clip-on pendants and earrings with gems or pearls. To wear in your own way, to reflect your own personality. Life is about choices and we are happy you choose for us. Feed the right feelings, enjoy!
