Millennium Farm Trust
www.m-f-t.org.ukThe Millennium Farm Trust, (MFT) is a care farm for people with learning difficulties and disabilities and long term physical and mental health problems. We provide meaningful occupation in a supported environment. At MFT the Farm Helpers have the opportunity to learn skills in animal husbandry, horticulture and agriculture with as much or as little support as they need. The work builds confidence and develops social and practical skills. The outdoor physical activity improves both mental and physical fitness. Our long term aim is to help people move from farm helper, to volunteer and from volunteer into employment. The Millennium Farm Trust was founded in the Autumn 1996. The initiative for the Trust came from an enthusiastic group of people with learning difficulties and disabilities. Since our farming operation started in the year 2000, many people have benefited from MFT’s activities. Care farming provides health, social and educational care services vulnerable groups of people in a supervised, structured programme of farming-related activities. The Care Farming Movement in UK has grown quickly in the last five years and there are now more than 170 care farms in the UK with more being set up all the time.
