The Womens Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation
www.cincinnatiwomensfund.orgThe Women's Fund of the Greater Cincinnati Foundation was founded 25 years ago by a group of donors who wanted to improve the status of women and girls in our region. Our mission is to lead our community in ensuring the economic self-sufficiency of women and ignite a shared desire to improve it. We are passionate about creating systemic change that positively affects women and their families through leadership, groundbreaking research, and investing in projects that improve attainment of self-sufficiency. Always at the table, the Women's Fund provides a strong voice for women in our community. We bring together community members and decision makers from government, non-profits and the business community, so we can solve big community problems faster. We know that women are disproportionately affected by poverty, as they tend to hold jobs in low-paying sectors and bear greater responsibility for caregiving in their family. In fact, in our region, nearly 20 percent of women are living in poverty, and of the children in poverty, 74 percent of them live in a single female household . If we help improve the circumstances that led to these women working in poverty, we believe it will generate positive outcomes for our entire community. There are ten broad factors affecting a women's economic self-sufficiency, and we concentrate on four areas (employment, child care, living wage and training & education) to help advance our region's resources.
