Ordheltene (translation: "Heroes of Words") is developed by Progression Park, a start-up comprised of digital media designers Søren Bolvig, Kasper Hurwitz and Nikolaj Hyldig. They have a background as researchers and teachers at Aalborg University & University College North-Jutland. Ordheltene is a digital learning aid for dyslexic children and children with reading difficulties between the ages of 7 and 12. The product is developed by university researchers and funded by the Danish Ministry of Education (http://eng.uvm.dk/). Ordheltene combines research-based reading strategies with motivational psychology and game design to ensure a high level of knowledge acquisition and motivates children to learn. Many dyslexic children experience defeat and adversity in learning how to read, which reduces their motivation to practice. We therefore have a strong focus on motivation, supported by game mechanics. The first version of the learning material was ready for release in the beginning September 2017. We are currently engaged in a pilot project in collaboration with public schools in Denmark. The purpose of research project t is to evaluate and validate the literary and motivational effects, and to identify which aspects work best or require adjustments. Ordheltene is currently only available in the Danish language, but English and other versions will follow.
