That was the goal! In order to obtain it, you needed to drive. Your journey to becoming a competent driver looked like this. As a young child, you did not know that you did not know how to drive. You were unconsciously incompetent. As you grew, (and wanted your independence) you knew that you did not know how to drive. You were consciously incompetent. So you took lessons and practiced, but had to think about every action. You became consciously competent. Now years later as an experienced driver you can effortlessly; listen to the radio, have a conversation, and chew gum. You are unconsciously competent* The starting point of this journey was having a goal and taking action to achieve it. You required a new skill. Once acquired, you spent time honing it through the practical application thereof until eventually, it became easy. Easy because you now knew how! Having achieved your goal, you were able to set bigger and bigger goals and by following these very same principles, you can achieve them. Unconscious competence has an enemy – complacency! The very best in the world know this. They never rest. The best are always looking to make improvements, no matter how micro they may be.
