E.A. Morris Fellowship for Emerging Leaders
www.eamorrisfellows.orgMorris Fellows explore how individuals in a free society form groups, teams, and enterprises to achieve common ends, and how thoughtful, committed, ethical leaders can help their organizations thrive and prosper. Sponsored by the E.A. Morris Charitable Foundation and the John William Pope Foundation, and hosted by the Raleigh-based John Locke Foundation, the E.A. Morris Fellowship for Emerging Leaders teaches the knowledge, skills, and understanding required to be an ethical and effective leader. Each year, classes of 12 to 18 North Carolinians are selected to participate in three weekend retreats, other educational programming, and community projects to refine what they have learned. More than a hundred Morris Fellows currently provide leadership in North Carolina and beyond, working in companies, governments, and nonprofits. The E.A. Morris Fellowship brings together several different programming elements: participation in intensive seminars and leadership training exercises, attendance at public policy events throughout the year, communication among participants via the Fellowship web tools, and building knowledge through directed readings and information. The Fellowship develops further understanding of the philosophical and political issues surrounding such topics as: 1) spotting opportunities for leadership in a local community; 2) ethics for developing leadership; 3) elements of fundraising and philanthropy; 4) program planning and evaluation; 5) economic analysis and how to use it; 6) speaking in public and in the media; 7) understanding and engaging across political differences; 8) Emotional Intelligence and Organization Effectiveness; and 9) finding and cultivating like-minded volunteers, donors, and activists. North Carolinians aged 25 to 40 are invited to apply online at www.EAMorris Fellows.org. Others may also nominate potential E.A. Morris Fellows. The application for the 2019 Morris Fellowship class will commence in September 2018.
