Merchant Taylors Oxfordshire Academy Trust, Wallingford School & Brightwell Primary School

www.mtoat.co.uk

The Merchant Taylors' Oxfordshire Academy Trust was formed in 2011 with Wallingford School, Brightwell cum Sotwell Primary School joined in 2017 and Aylesbury UTC in 2021. Wallingford School is a successful and larger than average mixed secondary school, established in Wallingford in 1659 by the merchant tailor Walter Bigg who wanted to endow a school associated with the parish church of St Mary’s. Walter Bigg was born and raised locally and went on to be elected Lord Mayor of London. Although he made good he never forgot his roots and was keen to help others. He left a trust fund that still exists for the benefit of our young people. We hope to encourage a similar desire to serve the community in our current students. We are proud to have maintained our links with the Merchant Taylors' Company in the City of London continuously since 1659 and were delighted to become part of the Merchant Taylors' Oxfordshire Academy Trust. We want to help every student choose the right mix of elements that will send them into the world able and qualified to play their full part. Those of us who work at Wallingford know we are very lucky to serve a community of young people who are typically very well-brought up, conscientious and ambitious. This is a cheerful and welcoming place. Students have fun, work hard and are thoughtful. Brightwell Primary School is a small village school of around 130 children serving a community of families that are aspirant, care about education and who bring their children up well. Behaviour and manners in the school are very good indeed. It is a school where really good teachers can take risks in lessons that children appreciate and make work. Aylesbury UTC is an innovative, dynamic, employment-led environment preparing young people to become highly skilled employees of the future through the integration of business with education. Focus is on building productive relationships with the IT and Construction industries.
