Big Picture India is a start-up organization committed to a fundamental redesign of education in our country. We are currently in the process of starting a highly innovative K-12 School in Mumbai set to open in 2017. We’re stuck in an industrial age paradigm of training for obedience - we’re teaching our children that if you do exactly what you are told, you will succeed. This doesn’t serve them well in the real world, which doesn’t work like that anymore. In the teacher-driven environment of today, the student experiences severe lack of freedom, control and engagement - every minute of her school day is dictated by an authority. This interferes with the development of her autonomy, decision making and prioritization skills. Lecturing children more than 6 hours a day is unnatural, ineffective and obsolete in the internet age.The learning experience is far from personalized, and provides no outlet for the unique passions and interests of each student and as such, is incredibly mind-numbing. The problems are too many and a radical, revolutionary change is needed at the fundamental level.
