Puente’s story begins with an experience had by one of its co-founders, Gerardo Gamino whose parents came to the United States from Mexico. After having to apply to college on his own, Gamino transformed what was once his 18-year-old struggle, to a solution for other Latino high school students by forming a service-oriented organization called Puente. Puente was formed to bridge the gap between parents’ knowledge and their children's knowledge of the higher educational system. Offering informational workshops at high schools in Utah county, Puente supports the Latino community and provides parents with the resources they need to help their children to maximize their education.
