The Wharton Institute of Technology and Science (WITS) was founded to provide mature men and women an opportunity to not only undertake further academic and professional studies, but also to gain recognition for all prior learning that could be documented and demonstrated to have taken place within and beyond the traditional academic classroom based instruction. Consequently, the traditional and non-traditional programs offered by WITS provide an opportunity for occupational experience, specialised training and independent reading to be assessed and recognized for credit purposes in meeting typical coursework qualification requirements. The Institute accomplishes this task by performing a thorough comparative evaluation of an individual's entire learning background against the requirements of a typical coursework program to determine the proper entry level, and potential for success in the program, prior to admission. Challenge examinations are often part of this admission process. After the admission process is completed, an individualised prescriptive study program is then developed for each student, which is administered under the guidance and supervision of the WITS faculty. All of the programmes offered by WITS are either accredited by Universities or delivered under license of international professional organisations.
