Girl + Environment

www.girlplusenvironment.org

Girl + Environment is a 501c3 and an online community that shares educational resources, tools, and information to get Black + Brown girls, women, and non-binary individuals excited and engaged in all forms of environmental justice. We disseminate free tools, resources, and information to Black + Brown girls through social media, online reports, workshops, newsletters, and our GPE resource HUB. GPE was founded by environmental justice activist and non-profit leader, Diamond Spratling. Diamond, a Detroit native, wanted to share her passion for environmental justice with other Black and Brown girls and also get them as excited about the topic as she is. GPE defines environmental justice as the fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of race, color, national origin, or income, with respect to the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies (Department of Energy). GPE defines the environment very broadly by looking at 3 forms of our environment: built environment, earth environment, and social environment. We understand that all 3 of these components are especially critical for addressing health inequities, racial injustices, and improving our overall quality of life.
