Onward is a financial wellness benefit that employers can offer to assist their workforce in building a financial cushion for themselves. According to the Federal Reserve, nearly 47% of Americans could not come up with $400 in case of an emergency. For the most vulnerable, the low to moderate income, these emergencies can become shocks leading to financial panic and in many cases the use of pay advances or predatory loans. Onward seeks to change that by offering a mobile app and accompanying website that allows employees to set a financial goal and start saving immediately from their paycheck into a savings account. While employees are saving, Onward utilizes push notifications to send financial tips, tools and resources directly to their mobile devices to create a feeling of confidence around managing finances. If employees have been active Onward savers for at least 3 months, they become eligible to access a responsible loan as an alternative to a payday loan or advance.
