WA Justice Association (WAJA)

www.wajustice.org.au

WAJA’s purpose is to reduce incarceration rates and improve outcomes for people coming into contact with Western Australia’s criminal justice system. We aim to achieve our purpose by effecting law/policy reform through an active community of students and legal professionals closely engaged in the social justice space. We undertake impactful research and advocacy activities in WA's criminal justice space in support of a range of non-government organisations. Our Projects, Outreach, Communications and Advocacy teams offer our partner organisations a range of services which tangibly advance their criminal justice reform initiatives. Our teams are comprised of passionate, high-achieving university student volunteers, assisted by experienced legal professionals from the Bar to community legal centres to global commercial law firms. WAJA's activities necessarily involve consideration of First Nations' issues, given the overrepresentation of First Nations Australians in Western Australia’s criminal justice system. Accordingly, we prioritising supporting Aboriginal-led initiatives and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations wherever possible. WAJA is committed to the principles of First Nations data sovereignty.
