edwardriver.nsw.gov.auEstablished on 12 May 2016 following the merger of the former Conargo Shire and Deniliquin Councils; Edward River Council is an innovative, community-focussed Local Government responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of services to support and improve the lives of our 8,972 permanent residents. The Edward River region encompasses a total land area of 8,881 square kilometres, centred on the town of Deniliquin and including the surrounding rural communities of Blighty, Booroorban, Conargo, Pretty Pine and Wanganella. Deniliquin is the administrative, commercial and services centre, with the Cobb Highway and Riverina Highway serving as the region's major transport corridors. Our region supports a strong and diverse economy driven by the local economy driven by the agriculture, health care, retail, education, tourism and manufacturing sectors. The local Gross Regional Product is estimated at around $566 million, representing 4.13 per cent of the Riverina-Murray GRP of $13.75 billion. Council employs around 100 staff, making us one of the Edward River region's largest employers.
