The institute was founded in 1967. It comprises 14 laboratories and clinic of psychosomatic disorders. The main research areas are: * R&D of new technological approaches aimed at increasing stamina and indurance under extreme conditions in man; * Newely developped methods for risk assessement, diagnostics, prevention and threatment methods of the socially significant diseases; * Study of integrative cerebral activity of normal and pathological brain; * Mastering and development of new diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation technologies for child diseases; * R&D of new non-pharmacological treatments (i.e., brain modulation, self-regulation) for psychosomatic medicine; * R&D for prevention and treatment of a jet-lag syndrom and winter depression. The Institute employs more than 200 people, 100 of them are researchers including 24 doctors of sciences (among them 3 academicians and 10 professors) and 37 PhD's (Candidates of Science).
