The Birmingham Medico-Legal Society was founded in May 1987. The aim of the society is “to promote medico-legal knowledge and develop contacts and co-operation between the professions of medicine and law”. With this in mind, a programme of lectures and social events is organised for legal and healthcare professionals and students. The society is part of the life of the Midlands professions of medicine and law and has forged links with other medico-legal societies, the Birmingham Law Society, the Medical Defence Union, the Medical Protection Society and West Midlands NHS Trusts. Membership of the society is open to qualified barristers, solicitors, accountants, registered medical and dental practitioners and to other such persons in the West Midlands area who are interested in medico-legal work. Members can claim Continuing Professional Development points in line with their current College procedures (medical profession) and the Solicitors Regulation Authority (solicitors). Meetings are held at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, 75 Harborne Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B15 3DH, car park in Highfield Road. The bar opens at 18.00 and supper is served at 18.30 followed by the meeting at 19.30.
