WHO WE ARE Education Cities is a national nonprofit network of 30 city-based organizations in 23 cities working to significantly increase the number of great public schools across the country. OUR MEMBERS Our members are city-based nonprofit organizations that create and coordinate education ecosystems that foster the growth of high-quality public schools in their respective cities. WHAT WE BELIEVE We believe that all students can succeed if given access to great public schools. We believe that schools can succeed if educators are empowered to make key decisions in their classrooms and schools. And we believe that school systems can succeed when schools operate with autonomy while being held accountable for strong student results. Yet, despite decades of reform, documented best practices, and the efforts of generations of talented educators, superintendents, and central office staff, too many children and families do not have access to schools that serve them well. When addressing the challenges of education, simply put: it’s not the people, it’s the system. School systems were designed for a simpler age when a high-school education could secure a stable future. Today, we ask more of our schools. And while times have changed, most school systems have not. We want to change these systems to ensure great public schools for all our children. To do so, we build the capacity of our network members to invest in the growth of great schools, recruit and support talented teachers and principals, authentically engage their communities and advance pro-children policies.
