It seemed he had disappeared after divorcing my grandmother for another woman and moving to Iowa. Crazy story, I know! Many family trees that I found online had his death year as 1931, so I was looking for records that were five years on either side of 1931. Well, that was completely wrong! As a last-ditch try, I changed my search criteria and PRESTO! A death certificate popped up that was a five-point match. He died in 1906, and his first name was incorrect on the certificate; it’s why I was blocked from finding him. I had been searching in many different places and using many other tactics.
