UoL Racing is a team of students from across the University of Leicester of varying backgrounds, ages, and disciplines, all with a common passion for motor racing and engineering. The team is supported by the University’s Engineering Department, who have provided us with a high-spec garage, and have arranged third and fourth year student projects contributing to the overall Formula Student project. This year, we are building a carbon fibre-bodied electrically-powered car for several reasons. Firstly, electrical power is the future of automotive technology, and developing an electrical car enables our team members to pioneer the future of automotive engineering. Secondly, we feel that we will have a strong advantage over our competition as the competition favours those who aim to minimize emissions. Thirdly, using an electric motor will reduce the complexity of the car.
