Stichting Leeuw shelters big cats in need and gives them a home, not just a place to live. Big cats fire our imagination; they radiate strength and agility. There’s a reason the lion is called king of all animals! All around us we see images of these mighty animals, for instance on clothes, in company logos or as tattoos. Big cats are even kept as pets and are forced to perform in circuses. Keeping big cats in a circus or as a pet is accepted less and less in our society and is even prohibited in many countries. Which is great, of course, but this does mean that more and more animals are in need of a home where they can spend the rest of their lives in peace. Our team helps these animals become healthy, through good housing, food and medical care. The big cats are also encouraged to get back in touch with their natural instincts, through enrichment and hunting sessions with our hunting simulator. Always by choice – we never force the animals to do anything. When our lions or tigers are fit and healthy, they are relocated to a near-natural environment at our sanctuaries in South Africa or Thailand. The sanctuary in The Netherlands is open daily to visitors and is located on ‘Landgoed Hoenderdaell’ in Anna Paulowna The Netherlands. There are several ways for you to help our work: - adopt an animal: www.stichtingleeuw.nl/en/steun-ons/adopteer-een-dier/ - donate: www.stichtingleeuw.nl/en/steun-ons/word-donateur/ - do volunteer work: www.thelionsfoundation.com/volunteers/
