At IBC2, scientists are dedicated to deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular life. Our research focuses on the regulation of cellular signaling networks in health and disease, on cellular quality control mechanisms like selective autophagy, on the regulation of complex cellular processes during development and in the context of diseases, and on the structure-function relationship of macromolecular complexes. We aim to shed light on the mechanisms contributing to the pathophysiology of human diseases and deliver groundbreaking discoveries paving the way for novel, targeted therapies. The Institute is actively engaged in collaborative efforts in- and outside Frankfurt. Both the Collaborative Research Centre 1177 (SFB 1177) on Selective Autophagy funded by German Research Foundation (DFG) and the LOEWE program on Ubiquitin Networks funded by the Hessian State Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts (HMWK) are led by IBC2. In addition, members of the Institute are partners in the Cluster of Excellence Macromolecular Complexes (CEF-MC), the LOEWE centres of Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) as well as Translational Medicine and Pharmacology (TMP), the SFB 834 on Endothelial Signaling and Vascular Repair, and the SFB 815 on Redox Regulation.
