Tigerman McCurry Architects has its roots in the Chicago architectural tradition of innovative design as well as construction. Its principals, both Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, are native Chicagoans. Both apprenticed for Chicago firms and both received their architectural registrations through that system. The firm as it is presently constituted is the result of the melding of two individual design practices that combine nearly seven decades of experience. Tigerman McCurry Architects asserts a conscious effort to address issues surrounding social cause and environmental and ecological concerns while mentoring and educating young architects in their quest for design excellence. The firm is committed to the creation of a contemporary and authentically American architecture that is characteristic of its own place and time. This philosophy leads the firm to assemble the standard ingredients essential to architectural production – to interact, to question, to challenge, to collaborate – in order to reach a consensus and then to create a building that represents the collective energies of client and society. Tigerman McCurry embraces the hybridization intrinsic to an American culture that is the inevitable result of the melting pot. The principals reject signature architecture since such pursuit ultimately premiates the author over the reader.
