Wylie Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)

Since the early 1990’s the Wylie Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has worked diligently to increase local area employment opportunities, while also diversifying and strengthening the local tax base. Throughout this process we’ve narrowed our focus to better satisfy our primary objectives. Business Recruitment - Working with a variety of users, we continue to market available land, buildings, and redevelopment opportunities to local, regional and national developers, brokers and facility managers across multiple industry sectors. Business Retention - Existing business are a priority to the WEDC. While a primary charge of the WEDC is to induce new investment from outside the community, we never lose focus on retaining our existing business partners. Wylie Means Business is the name of our Business Retention and Expansion Program and we will continue to support local industry. Workforce Development - Workforce training programs, talent cultivation and continuous improvement are just a few topics that we are focused on locally. It is vital to our organization that we address the future workforce shortages and the overall skills-gap in order to continue to grow our employment base. We work with the local Wylie Independent School District, Collin College, NCTCOG, SBDC and Texas Workforce Commission to ensure we stay in tune with workforce trends. Revitalization - If you’ve been here long enough, you will remember a time when there was a railroad track that ran through Wylie, parallel to State Hwy 78. Perhaps you remember the old Extruders’ facility or maybe even the old grocery store on Ballard Street. Over the years, the WEDC has worked with the City of Wylie to become a catalyst for revitalization along our major thoroughfares. Some of our current efforts can be seen along FM 544 and Hwy 78. We will continue to work with the City of Wylie and the local citizens to improve the appearance of our wonderful community.
