Founded in 1980, our mission is to forge partnerships among citizens, scientists, and professionals to foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs for today and tomorrow. While the focus is lakes the medium is water. As lakes are a logical endpoint for water in all landscape forms NALMS is involved in land, streams, wetlands and even estuaries in the course of our activities. NALMS membership is a melting pot and we welcome anyone interested in lakes and lake management. NALMS members are academics, concerned citizens, lake management organizations, lake property owners, lake users, legislators, policy makers, politicians, professional lake managers, regulators, scientists, students, and volunteer monitors among others. Each member is an important partner in achieving our mission and the following goals: • Facilitate the exchange of information on aspects of managing lakes and their watersheds. • Promote public awareness of lake ecosystems. • Encourage public support for programs promoting the management of lakes and their watersheds. • Provide guidance to those involved in or planning management activities for lakes and their watersheds. • Improve the professional status of all persons engaged in aspects of managing lakes and their watersheds. • Identify needs and encourage research on lake ecology and watershed management.
