Community Insight Australia is a web-based tool that collates publicly available information on a map. It helps social purpose organisations access information on the communities they serve. It is a translation of Community Insight (communityinsight.org) in the UK, which is a collaboration between data experts Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI) and the Housing Associations’ Charitable Trust (HACT). They were recently nominated for an Open Data Innovation Award by the Open Data Institute. Community Insight Australia will allow service designers to target and tailor services to communities. We hope this means better outcomes for Australian communities. The tool is intuitive to operate and does not require any training or expertise. Functions: 1. Social indicators can be heat-mapped to identify areas of greatest need. 2. For any area the user defines, engaging and informative reports can be generated in under 10 minutes. 3. User-defined areas can be quickly compared to each other, their state and Australia via a dashboard. 4. Map your housing or other community assets, spatially analyse your assets’ relationship to the community they sit in.
