Reading between the Lines: Recovery from Conflict.
www.delphinedutoit.caDoes it feel like you're talking to a brick wall? Broken and wounded relationships often get that way through persistent misunderstandings. You say what you mean but that's not what they hear. Do they listen to understand? Do you? Or, perhaps you have an established pattern of chitchat and pleasantries that hides the misery of not being heard and understood and you don't know how to break through to what you really think and want. Maybe they're a problem solver and forever telling you what to do to solve the problems THEY think you have? They think they're helping. They know best. You feel bullied and disempowered. Or maybe you're a problem solver and you can see what's wrong but they just don't. SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE. My clients sometimes come looking for a way of getting the other person(s) to change - at home, at work, in the neighborhood. We work on that. Through working with me they see the situation through fresh eyes. They discover choices they didn't realise they had. I accept who they are. I come to understand what they want and together we craft a way forward. Sometimes they are able to work with the other person(s) to restoring and strengthening the relationships. Sometimes they realise it's not what they want. Whether they come to me for conflict management coaching, building better communication skills, mediation or examining and repairing a toxic workplace, the client remains in control I am there to help, not to dictate.
