A healthier Aotearoa starts in the places where we spend our time. In healthier environments, children learn better, workplaces are more productive, people are healthier and happier, and communities thrive. At Healthy Families Waitākere, we work alongside community to think differently about the underlying causes of poor health and identify the changes we can make together - in our schools, workplaces, sports clubs, marae, and other environments that will support making the healthy choice, the easy choice. We have an explicit focus on improving Māori health and reducing inequity for groups at increased risk of preventable chronic diseases. Our approach sees us partner with community leaders to create local solutions, driving sustainable change that is owned by community – not delivered to community. Working together, we can create healthy communities now and for the future. Together we can make the changes in our communities and empower people to eat well, support mental wellbeing, be physically active, be smoke-free and only drink alcohol in moderation. Healthy Families Waitakere is led by Sport Waitakere, uniting with the vision to see healthy, active and connected communities in West Auckland.
