The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is a department within the College of Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Dating back to the early 20th century, Electrical and Computer Engineering has a long history of excellence. Our vision is to be a creative driving force of the highest scholarly and entrepreneurial quality. Our mission is to inspire, educate, and produce electrical and computer engineers capable of tackling fundamental scientific problems and essential societal challenges - and to do so with the highest commitment to quality, integrity, and respect for others. Our students are rigorously trained in fundamentals of engineering, with a strong bent towards the maker culture of learning and doing. With just under 1,400 individuals, ECE is the largest department at Carnegie Mellon University. Although the majority of our work takes place on our Pittsburgh campus, our collaborations extend far and wide. We are engaged in global collaborative research and teaching efforts through extensions of our academic programs and research in Silicon Valley, Portugal, Africa, and Singapore.
