Taste of Aviation (TOA) is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization offering youths and adults of all ages, introductory and limited educational exposure to the aviation and aerospace industries. TOA is the brainchild of a concerned parent, Linda Jeffries and an aviation professional, Thelma Rudd. They both saw and joined together to address the void in thoughtful aviation exposure to young students and others. While celebrating the vast diversity in the skies, TOA also highlights history, civics, society, technology, and employment. Using aviation as the platform, TOA aims to improve communication and leadership abilities as we interact in our ever changing world. Although not everyone wants a career in aerospace, a “Taste of Aviation” will encourage all to “Keep Looking Up!” Our mission is to introduce youth and adults of all ages to the historical, social and career contributions of aviation. TOA utilizes an array of methods to engage the community, including: Aviation /Aerospace career days Book/web publications Educational outreach Strategic corporate and organizational partnerships Community events like Saturday Flight School for kids. TOA is a strong proponent of Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STREAM) as needed skill sets for the jobs of tomorrow. In addition to outreach events, TOA also provides scholarship opportunities for students pursuing STREAM careers, and funding for special projects. Along with continuous commitment to promoting aviation and offering our signature, trademark program “Saturday Flight School”, Taste of Aviation gives back in the following ways: Master Pilot Eugene May Classroom Enrichment Grant for Jackson TN Educators; Captain Calvin Janes Academic Scholarship partnership between Taste of Aviation and Memphis Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen; the official Bessie Coleman website – www.bessiecoleman.org, OBAP's Lt. Col Luke Weathers Flight Academy and the newly founded Eleanor Williams Scholarship.
