India Infrastructure and Logistics Private Limited (IILPL) was setup as a joint venture between APL, the container transportation arm of the NOL Group, and HIPE (Hindustan Infrastructure Projects & Engineering Private Limited) in order to provide rail-based container transportation and related logistics in India. The service was initially marketed under the brand: APL IndiaLinx In January 2007, APL IndiaLinx signed a 20-year ‘Concession Agreement’ with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. The Agreement enables IILPL to operate container trains across the entire Indian Railways network. Operations commenced in May 2007 when the first train was operated between ICD Loni (20 Kms north – east of Delhi) to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port at Nhava Sheva (Mumbai). Over the years, APL-IndiaLinx has established efficient connectivity between Indian ports, and various hinterland ICDs, providing the crucial land coverage for EXIM cargo in India. IILPL currently operates 18 rakes with an annual capacity of around 200,000 TEU’s providing regular services from 9 ICD’s in NCR, Ludhiana, Kanpur and Hyderabad to the ports of Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Pipavav.
In December 2014, APL-IndiaLinx became a wholly owned subsidiary of APL Logistics after buying out the minority shareholding of HIPE. Subsequently, In February 2015 APL Logistics itself was taken over by Kintetsu World Express (KWE) from Japan, and the erstwhile APL-IndiaLinx service commenced an independent journey under the brand name of IndiaLinx.
