Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is a proven intervention that can greatly reduce the human and economic costs of CVD. It is a treatment plan for patients who have suffered a primary acute event to reduce their risk of mortality by 26% and their risk of rehospitalisation by 42%. CR is extremely effective but because the model of care has been taken from the West, we are yet to see these benefits in lower income countries, where due to resource constraints the Western model is infeasible.
