The Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT) is a professional body for Dance Movement Psychotherapists (DMP), Dance/Movement Therapists (DMT), Dance Movement Therapy Practitioners (DMTP) and Therapeutic Movement Facilitators (TMF) in India. It was formed to set ethical standards for professional practice, training and supervision in the field of Dance Movement Therapy in India. The Indian Association of Dance Movement Therapy (IADMT) defines DMT as a psychotherapeutic method that uses movement and creative expression to further socio-emotional, cognitive and somatic integration. The IADMT promotes growth, development and recognition of the profession of Dance Movement Therapy in India: 1) By establishing and maintaining standards for training, research and professional practice 2) By providing ethical guidelines that bring about safety for both the practitioner and the client. 3) By providing a means of communication, education and networking between dance movement therapists, other health professionals, employers and clients 4) By liaising with other relevant professional bodies nationally and internationally. 5) By providing information and resources for its members, students and the wider community 6) By offering appropriate membership status to applicants who meet the training and membership criteria.
