Mil Milagros, Inc. is a Boston-based non-profit organization that equips mothers and teachers with skills and resources to improve the lives of children and families in rural Guatemala. Today, 50% of children in Guatemala are malnourished, with rates exceeding 70% in rural communities like those where Mil Milagros works. Only 66% of children graduate from the sixth grade, with rates estimated to be just 40% in rural areas. Mil Milagros is fundamentally changing these odds by partnering with mother and grandmother volunteers, and teachers, to deliver innovative nutrition, health and hygiene, and literacy programs for children and families. Graduation rates average 97% in Mil Milagros' partner schools and rates of chronic malnutrition and stunting are down 50%.
