www.gegen-noma.deThe NGO “Gegen Noma-Parmed e.V.” was established in 2008 in Germany with the status of charity and has been engaged for more than 10 years in the fight against malnutrition and the hunger disease Noma in an innovative holistic approach covering in particular nutrition education, general hygiene and oral health. Noma "destroys" faces and leads children under the age of 2 to death after 10-15 days without treatment. The charity is registered on the list of 250 NGOs certified in Germany by the Deutsches Zentralinstitut für soziale Fragen (DZI). The NGO established a partnership with the Ministry of Health of the Burkina Faso to be part of the national program for the fight against Noma. The association is officially represented by Dr Hadissa Tapsoba in Burkina Faso, Chairman of the Réseau pour la promotion de la santé bucco-dentaire et la recherche en Afrique, its local partner, in Africa. With large capacity building Programms and sensibilisation campaigns, the Charity contributes to improve the knowledge of the disease Noma, the factors of risks, and the preventive measures by the general public; to reinforce social mobilization, participation and involvement of the communities in activities relating to the prevention of oral and dental problems, malnutrition and noma; to build the capacities of the contractors of healthcare for prevention and early care of oral and dental problems, malnutrition and noma; to improve clinical and epidemiological knowledge and to collect data on Noma, oral and dental problems and to develop innovative projects focussed on the prevention of malnutrition. One of our main activities "raising awareness and improving the nutritional status of at-risk populations in the Sahel region target pregnant and breastfeeding women with children under the age of 2 through nutritional education, including cooking demonstrations, the promotion of good hygiene practices and oral hygiene, so decisive in the imbalance of the microbiota.
