Kijani Youth Initiative aims to empower disadvantaged youth in Kenya to kick poverty and build a greener future for themselves, their families and the communities in which they live. Kijani is an NGO based in Nairobi, Kenya, which has been supported by a team of volunteers in Brisbane, Australia, and has been linked to collaborating partners such as CYALA. We work with youth in Nairobi to start sustainable businesses and community initiatives, which is accomplished by empowering locals to deliver on-site training and mentoring, and by providing information and startup capital. We have a strong focus on environmentally-friendly practices. In Kiswahili, Kijani means green. Kijani was founded in Kenya in 2010, and in Brisbane in 2013. Kijani has helped over 400 Kenyans to better their livelihood, and has launched 6 successful businesses which are still in operation today. Kijani's work is being continued in Kenya at present.
