He was the founding publisher and editor of the magazine Scientific American as well as inventor, writer, teacher and more. The mission of the Rufus Porter Museum is to celebrate the life and times of a remarkably creative American genius who worked throughout Maine, New England and beyond. The museum is a nearly all volunteer-run organization with, currently, one staff member, the Museum Director-Curator.
