The Center for Lunar and Asteroid Surface Science (CLASS), in conjunction with NASA and Deep Space Industries, has developed a series of regolith simulants based on the mineralogy of carbonaceous meteorite groups, and planetary samples from the Moon and Mars. The objective is to provide realistic materials for NASA, private companies, and researchers to support the development of ISRU technology and hardware testing for exploration.
