Invisible Strengths
www.invisiblestrengths.comAs a disabled black queer non-binary woman with invisible disabilities, I know first hand how non inclusive environments inflict trauma and impede on productivity. These circumstances can leads to endless DEI audits, disgruntled employees and demoralization. I am on a mission to dismantle white supremacy and the other isms that are prominent in the field of public health. I want to help others to navigate pronouns , accessibility , gender and sexuality in the workplace and why not through a tech based solution. To help other build community and see other who look like them not only surviving but thriving. Invisible Strengths is a social networking app connecting intersectional candidates in the public health field with inclusive work environments. This stands to provide a diverse pipeline of employees for employers, as well as job-seekers. The platform will also provide tracings tools and tips for employers and employees regarding reasonable accommodations. In progress to the goal of launch, currently I have: - Received a grant from the city of Washington DC - Purchased a master class on venture capital from Arlan Hamilton’s Backstage Capital - Invested in a contractor to create the UX experience - Begun gaining focus group feedback from partners in other intersectionally focused businesses Despite some setbacks, I am starting to gain traction and funding. I believe in this venture as it solves for a gap in the market and it is desperately needed to secure the American dream for every single person on our soil. It is my ultimate goal to head this project full time, and that will only be possible with more funding. So far, this has been a bootstrapped passion project that is being propelled forward by my deeply held belief in equality for marginalized groups. The field of public health is expanding at an unbelievable rate, and many public health organizations are looking for a new pipeline to a diverse talent pool.
