Johnny Papercuts
Born and raised in East London, for most of my life I have balanced pursuing music projects with working in an analytics field professionally, both of which require applying math's so have much in common. As time has gone on and with a DIY attitude in mind, I found my focus drawn more and more over to the visual side of my creative endeavours whether that was a logo, a cd booklet, a poster or a website. I applied those things as and when they were needed without much thought about what inspired me to create but eventually, I was drawn in to the realm of paper art and Kirigami through my love of how tactile and accessible paper is as a material with how I can combine the mathematical skills I use elsewhere. My inspiration comes from all over but especially family, geometry, textures, music, cats, lateral thinking, space and the cosmos. In my work I focus on cardstock as the main material but nothing is off menu if the piece requires something extra, although I try to keep the materials natural as well as abstract in its nature using various hobby knives to carve out and give depth and layering.
