Discovering Safety

www.discoveringsafety.com

Every year, huge amounts of incident investigation findings and operational health and safety data are collected globally. If meaningful insights could be generated from this data and applied in local contexts and situations, health and safety could be substantially improved, ultimately saving lives, particularly in poorer or developing nations. Introducing the DISCOVERING SAFETY programme The Lloyd's Register Foundation and the Health and Safety Executive are jointly developing the DISCOVERING SAFETY programme. This ambitious and long-term programme of work will develop new techniques to aggregate and analyse health and safety data from different sources around the world. It will: seek to understand how to access and use the data available; apply expertise in data science, data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to health and safety concepts, advancing areas such as text mining and language processing which will have important spin-off benefits. DISCOVERING SAFETY seeks to make a real difference from these insights through education, practical improvement initiatives and commercial tools and services. Phase 1 of the programme is just about to start and HSE is looking to engage with a wide group of stakeholders, within the UK and internationally, to further understand the key health and safety challenges they face and where a data-driven approach could make a positive impact on these. Seven use cases that could be tested under the programme have already been identified but HSE would like to add more, spanning different stakeholder groups, industry sectors and levels of health and safety maturity. If you’d like to find out more about the DISCOVERING SAFETY programme or have a discussion about possible use cases that you might be interested in, please get in touch with the project team – [email protected] #discoveringsafety
