Bill and John Walker, founders, began farming together in 1973. Operating on the home farm in Merrill, the brothers have grown this farming entity to over 9,000 acres, growing potatoes, grain and hay on ground from the Running Y Ranch, to Merrill, Malin, Tulelake and the Tule Lake Wildlife Refuge Lease Lands. In 1984, the Walkers created Gold Dust Potato Processors, Inc. Originally operating out of offices in Merrill and sheds located on the family's farm, Gold Dust operated a truck brokerage and processing facilities. Now, they operate on a large campus outside of Malin, Oregon, where the packing shed ships chipping potatoes to customers all over the West Coast of the US as well as to clients all over the Pacific Rim. Today, Gold Dust and Walker Brothers is owned and operated by the Walker Family. William (Bill) Walker, John Walker, Weston Walker and Tricia (Walker) Hill are the family behind these businesses. Aside from providing high quality chipping potatoes, hay and grain, they pride themselves on their involvement in the Klamath Basin community and sustaining these businesses for future generations.
