Ingeneering flourished by exploiting the opportunities presented in the 1980's by the islands of isolated systems which steadfastly refused to talk to each other. Much of the problems were of the political 'empire building' kind; A fresh and ruthless external opinion followed up by rapid agile developments ensured that entrenched long timeframe mainframe projects were doomed, and the business got it's hands on the information it so desperately needed.
