Beyond this, camp has two key components to it: the in-camp program, and the wilderness tripping program. Position Description: Counselors interpret safety and health regulations. Counselors live in cabins to help each camper adjust and grow while at camp. Counselors guide individual camper’s integration into the group, unit and camp activities. Counselors supervise all program activities and lead wilderness trips. Counselors perform chores and maintenance as required to make camp successful. Working as a counselor at Camp Voyageur provides a wonderful opportunity for you to influence the lives of children placed under your care. With these great opportunities come immense responsibilities to our customers, fellow counselors, the administration and camp. A typical contract will begin late-May and end mid-August. For two-weeks prior to the official start of our season, counselors will be thoroughly trained for leading both in-camp programs and wilderness trips. This will include a 4-5 canoe trip, Requirements for position: In order to lead wilderness trips, you will need to come to camp with CPR, First Aid, Wilderness First Aid and Lifeguard Training. We will train staff requiring Wilderness First Aid prior to the start of camp, and the remaining certifications can be completed with a standard Lifeguard course with the American Red Cross. You may apply without Lifeguard training, however, you will not be able to lead your own wilderness trips.
