MIM
www.mim.beThe Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) is a federal scientific institution, 4th department of the Royal Museums of Art and History (RMAH). Located on the Mont des Arts in the centre of Brussels, it is surrounded by other iconic Belgian museums. The museum stands out for its extraordinary rich collection, encompassing around 10.000 instruments. By entering the museum, you'll embark on a musical world journey through around 1200 exhibited instruments. Thanks to a multimedia guide, visitors can listen to the sound of the instruments on display and get extra information through video and text. The museum was founded at the end of the 19th century, at about the time the luxurious Old England shops opened in the Mont des Arts, where the MIM took up residence since June 2000. The Old England soon acquired a strong reputation thanks to their very particular building: while the entrance is Art Nouveau, it's integrated in perfect harmony with the Place Royale neoclassical architectural complex. Beyond this exhaustive panorama of ancient, modern and traditional music, the MIM offers multiple activities for all audiences. Its mission is multiple: conservation, restoration, scientific search, information, education, and entertainement. The MIM is a new generation museum, scientific, but open to its public, and dedicated to make the discovery of musical instruments an exciting experience.
