Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, faith-based organization providing local human service programs, as well as opportunities for individual and community involvement. Founded nationally in 1896, Volunteers of America's ongoing mission to reach and uplift all people includes helping families with children, seniors, the homeless, former foster youth, and people with mental health, and substance-abuse issues. The process of re-entering the community after incarceration can be daunting and without the proper resources, previous offenders' risk of recidivism increases. Volunteers of America offers several programs to help these individuals successfully reintegrate into the community and realize their true potential. In addition, Volunteers of America provides programs to current and former foster youth aimed at helping them successfully transition into adulthood.
