CoESPU - Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units
www.coespu.orgMainly focusing on stability policing, the CoESPU provides education & training to international carabinieri-like individuals & units, for their future deployment in Peace Operations (POs), and develops relevant doctrine & research. Established in Vicenza (ITA) as a national body opened to international contributions, the Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units operates as an institute for advanced studies and a doctrinal hub, serving as think tank and training center. Set up by Carabinieri in March 2005 in partnership with the US GPOI, stemming from an Italian offer within the Sea Island G8, since its foundation the CoESPU has organized comprehensive stability-policing training activities in favor of the UN and other IOs, to increase the POs global capability, with particular emphasis on beneficiary police contributing countries' self-sufficiency. More specifically, i.a.w. its mission, the CoESPU conducts training programs; fosters HRs & gender mainstraming; enhances current police peacekeeping doctrine analyzing related LL & best practices; provides onsite assessment for validating the trained units’ capabilities and coordinates the standardization of contingent equipment, promoting interoperability. In a wider vision, the CoESPU is also active within a worldwide doctrinal network, interacting with main IOs, Universities and peer research Centers, to develop doctrinal proposals and new operational procedures, as well as designing new didactic curricula. All these activities are inspired by common ethical guidance, based on the core values of integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity, harmonically embedded in the framework of traditions built upon the Carabineri’s bicentennial history. Over the years, the CoESPU has graduated more than 10,000 trainees coming from 112 countries that have become the nucleus of a robust, carabinieri-like peacekeeping police capacity.
